Mark Chapin, PhD, LCSW-C Lieutenant Colonel (Retired), US Army

In 2009, I stood up and staffed a new Vet Center in Annapolis. That’s a small VA counseling center where I built a program for combat veterans and survivors of military sexual trauma.

We based our counseling on both traditional evidence based therapies, but also integrated other stress management and mind-body medicine strategies. We included yoga, art, music therapy, meditation, and therapeutic horseback riding.

My counseling areas of expertise are in trauma (PTSD), substance abuse, and marital counseling. I have extensive experience working with active duty military, retired military, veterans, and their families. I retired from the VA in 2018 and joined the staff of Cornerstone in 2019.

I also work with the Wounded Warrior Project on Odyssey retreats for combat veterans, and serve on the advisory board of the Begun Center for Violence Prevention and Education at Case Western Reserve University.

I served as a Social Work Officer for 28 years on active duty in the Army, retiring in 2007. I then worked as an Army civilian social worker at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, specializing in work with families of the severely injured from 2007-2009.
